Junior Sens Update
Ottawa Junior 'A' Senators

Future Stars Abound!

The 2009-2010 Season started in earnest this past month with the introduction of the Carleton Place Canadians as the CJHL’s  12th and final expansion franchise.   As part of the expansion process, the CJHL held a special Expansion Draft which gave the Canadians an opportunity to choose two players from each of the 11 existing team 35 man Protect Lists. Each team was in turn allowed to protect 14 players prior to the Canadians selection process.

In what was a difficult decision based purely on the numbers at hand, the OJS left 3 year OJS veteran Mitch Bird unprotected and the Canadians wasted little time claiming Mitch as one of their own. The Ottawa Junior Senators would like to thank Mitch for his efforts, particularly those involving the OJS minor hockey programmes directed at the youth in our community, and wish him resounding success in his new role with the Canadians – Go Get’em Mitch!

Prior to the CJHL Draft held on May 30th in Kemptville, each team was allowed to protect two 1994 Bantam aged players. The Ottawa Junior Senators are pleased to announce that their ’94 protected players are Dalen Hedges and Gianmarco Demeis, both from the Ottawa 67’s Bantam AAA programme.

They join ’93 protects Connor McLaren who most recently played with the Upper Canada Minor Midget AAA’s, and Stephen Hrehoriak who this year played with the Ottawa Valley Titans Minor Midget AAA’s.

The OJS, prior to Saturday’s draft, also announced that their first round, and subsequently protected, selection would be Ben Robillard from the Ottawa 67’s Minor Midget AAA team.

The Ottawa Junior Senators are also pleased to announce and introduce their remaining  2009 Draft selections:

Third Round: Connor Brown (1993) Ottawa 67’s AAA
Third Round: Josh O’Keefe (1992) Ottawa Valley Titans AAA
Fifth Round: Jordan Moran (1992) Brockville Tiki’s
Sixth Round: Matthew Rosebrook (1993) Ottawa Valley Titans AAA
Seventh Round: Philip Brougham (1992) Ottawa 67’s AAA
Eighth Round: Michel Thurler (1991) Morrisburg Lions
Ninth Round: Scott Best (1993) Ottawa 67’s AAA
Tenth Round: Spencer Paveck (1993) Ottawa Sting AA

Congratulations go out to all our talented Draft Selections.  With the OJS Prospects Camp only a few weeks away competition will be fierce.  Stay tuned for 2009-2010 Roster  updates and commitments  as they occur!
